The Rainbow group started out as just the Birmingham casino, out to the west of the city off Hagley Road.
However, in more recent times the group has expanded to five sites. When Gala Casinos sold out to Rank, there were four sites that the buyer wasn’t allowed to acquire, due to competition issues. Basically, the Competition Commission decided that if Rank were to buy the sites in Aberdeen, Cardiff, Bristol and Teesside, they’d have too much control over the local markets, which wouldn’t be good for the punting public.
With that in mind, Gala had to sell the other four sites seperately, and they became part of the Rainbow Casino group.
